Why: CivicSync runs on Next.js 14 and React 18, two major versions behind. Staying behind means newer tools increasingly won't work with it (the content editor already had to be hosted separately for this reason), older versions get less attention for bug and security fixes, and we miss performance improvements. What changes: page parameters become asynchronous (an official tool handles most of it), a small change to how cached content is refreshed, and a new default build tool. All current libraries support React 19. Plan: do it on a separate branch with a full check of every page before merging. Afterwards, the content editor can move into the app at /studio. Estimated effort: a few hours. Deployed: 3 Oct 2026
